The President’s Page
Summer 2006

Reconciliation was an often repeated theme at the Seventy-Fifth General Convention of the Episcopal Church.  The triennial ten day convention was held in Columbus, Ohio for ten days in mid June.  The decisions of the General Convention, including the election of the next Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, the Right Reverend Katherine Jefferts Schori, will require the best efforts of many reconcilers during the next three years.

CCN-North America once again had a booth at the General Convention.  Mary Slenski, a board member from Christ Church, Dayton, organized the booth, recruited volunteers, attended to the set up and removal of the materials all while she was doing Clinical Pastoral Education for the summer.  We are all immensely grateful to Mary for making the 2006 General Convention booth possible.

People from Cincinnati and Dayton volunteered at the booth during the convention.  Our thanks to: Merelyn Bates-Mims, Dianne Ebbs, Howard Heck, Isaiah Hyman, Maurice and Louise Mandell, Stan Musick, John Paddock, Chuck Pettee, George Slenski, and Anne Wrider for their representation of CCN.

I have just sent information to the members of our Board and Advisory Board for the 2006 Board Meeting which will meet October 13-15 in Vancouver, British Columbia.  This first meeting in Canada will inaugurate the North American Community of the Cross of Nails.  The Very Rev. Peter Elliott, Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver, will host the meeting.  Board meetings are open to all CCN members and I invite you to join us this October.

It is important that we remember those who help us to communicate to one another. I take this occasion to thank Pamela Gibbard, the CCN webmaster, who keeps our website up to date.  Pam volunteers hours of her time to manage this site and this past year, redesigned the site and brought it to our new address as CCN North America.  Whenever you have an occasion to “contact the webmaster” take a moment to thank Pam for her work.

I trust the summer is going well for you.

Peace and God Bless,

James A. Diamond
President, CCN-North America
